Chasing Rainbows: Celebrating St. Patrick's Day in Chattanooga

March 14, 2021

If you’re looking for a fun way to get in the St. Patrick’s Day spirit this year, Chattanooga has a surprising amount of options: from festive food & colorful murals to epic events, my little southern city has got you covered!

I’ve done the scouting for you & rounded up some of my favorite St. Paddy’s treats, as well as a shortlist of the most colorful & grammable spots! So are you feeling lucky yet? Let’s jump in!

Do a Wall Crawl

Chatt has no shortage of beautiful & vibrant photo spots. If you’re looking for the perfect rainbow background to amp up your outfit photos, these spots will do the trick.

• Milliken Park -100 W 45th St.

• Heaven & Ale Brewing Southside - 342 E Main St.

• St. Elmo rainbow steps (in front of the old Mojo Burrito) - 3950 Tennessee Ave

• Change mural (on the side of the downtown Big River) - 222 Broad St.

Treat Yo Self

What better way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day than with festive treats? I love how local businesses get creative around all the different holidays & come up with such awesome themed concoctions! Here’s just a few of the things you can find around Chattanooga this week:

  • Julie Darling & Duck Donuts - festive donuts
  • Clumpies - Lucky Charms ice cream & Irish Coffee ice cream
  • Hot Choclatier - Irish carbomb cupcake, Andes Mint chocolate cake, Irish cream truffles, Lucky Irishman frozen white hot chocolate with mint, and frozen green tea
  • Noogarons - St. Patrick's Day mix of macarons in Mint Chocolate, Irish Coffee (made with Chattanooga Whiskey 91 Proof), and Lucky Charms
  • Be Caffeinated - Thin Mint latte
  • Whistle Stop (*advance reservations required) - "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" milkshake (vanilla icecream, green marshmallow drizzle, green glazed donut, rainbow airhead, rainbow lollipop, Lucky Charms marshmallows, chocolate coin & whipped cream); they also have green beer & a specialty cocktail, "Luck be a Lady"

If you're looking for a whole sit down meal in true theme, check out Syrup + Eggs! They're one of my favorite breakfast spots (1000% grammable, plus bomb food - check out this review here), and they have some really fun treats for St. Paddy's day.

We stopped in this morning and tried their Lucky Charms gluten free muffin and the "Pot O' Gold" mimosa. The muffin was a banana nut base with vannila glaze and covered in Lucky Charms marshmallows. The mimosa was the clear winner, though: champagne, citrus, Jameson whiskey & edible gold glitter. It's a bit hard to tell from the photo, but there was a lot of glitter swirling around in that pretty cocktail! If you go, I also recommend the "Super B.S." (biscuit sandwich) - carnitas, cream cheese, a fried egg & salsa (sorry folks, no photo because it was just that good).

Move it, shake it!

If you’re looking to get out & about for St. Paddy’s - well, there may not be as much going on this year as in year’s past, but some beloved events are back (hello ShamRock City!) and some new ones have come to play. And don’t worry - we’ve got you covered on where to find green beer.

Shamrock City at Rock City - this is Chattanooga's "premier St. Patrick's Day event" & this year marks the 13th year it has been going on! Shamrock City is an St. Paddy's day event at Rock City featuring Irish food, specialty beer, pop-up Irish dancing performances, Suffolk sheep, and they turn the High Falls green! All of this is included with your general Rock City admission, but if you want to add to the fun, you can purchase the ShamROCK Supper 'n Show add-on experience that includes dinner & an Irish band.

Tremont Tavern - St. Patrick's Party with $4 Chatt Brew Shamrock Red, $4 Wiseacre Quiet Man Irish Stout, and $5 Guinness (& most likely some surprises in store!)

• Wednesday on Wheels St. Patrick's Day Roller Disco - This event is presented by Moonlight Roller Skate Shop and is a roller disco themed night (so yes, there is absolutely skating involved!). Think 70s disco + festive AF outfits + booze + groovy tunes + St. Patrick's Day shenanigans. Um, hell yes, count me in! Tickets are $15 in advance & $20 at the door (and if you don't have your own skates, you can rent some)! *Masks required!

OddStory Brewing - $12 pitchers Liar’s Dice Irish pub ale

Pizza Bros - $3 green beer & delicious pizza (personally, the "Yeti" sounds lifechanging). Their Southside location is now open, so go grab some pizza + green beer & then hit up some of the other downtown spots to continue the fun!

• For that Irish pub vibe: Leapin Leprechaun & Honest Pint

• Moxy Nooga - $2 green beer & $10 Irish car bombs (the Moxy has an amazing outdoor space)!

There are so many fun ways to celebrate St. Patrick's Day this year, and while some mask wearing & social distancing may be required, it sounds like there's still an absolute ton of shenanigans to be had this year! Slainte!
