Resting Brunch Face: Wine Bar George Disney Springs Review

September 16, 2019

*Disclaimer: This post is a collaboration with Wine Bar George. I was hosted in exchange for a full review. All thoughts & honest opinions are my own, based on my experience.

Disney Springs is one of those places that I always have to make time for when I'm taking a trip to Walt Disney World. There's so much to do there that I could honestly spend an entire day just shopping, eating (& drinking!), and enjoying the various entertainment throughout Disney Springs. But one of the places I had been wanting to try for a while was Wine Bar George.

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to grab some brunch with my friends Kristen & Megan at Wine Bar George. I was really excited the weeks leading up to this because, well, did you hear me say BRUNCH + DISNEY? Basically if you say those words 3 times fast in a mirror, I will appear with mouse ears and a froscato (fro-what?? Keep reading). I'm so here for this.

Wine Bar George is known for their immense (& impressive!) selection of wines (but you probably gathered that from the name), and food+wine pairings selected by Master Sommelier George Miliotes. So yes, they know their wine and they know it well! You can grab a bottle, a glass, or create your own tasting by the ounce, but they do more than just wine. On Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, you can catch the wine country brunch at Wine Bar George.

We were welcomed into the modern rustic space and seated at a hightop. It was a crisp 125 degrees outside, so the A.C. was much appreciated. But if you happen to be here on an actually-cool evening  (so, like, February?) or during a time when the sun isn't trying to bake everything in sight to a crisp, they do have a pretty nice terrace upstairs.

The Wine Country brunch features an array of both sweet and savory options, and I knew I wanted to sample something from each. We did a lighter style brunch because we wanted to try a few different things so we could all share.

One thing I had seen splashed all over my instagram feed & had been most excited to try was the froscato mimosa, a blend of pineapple Dole Whip, moscato, and prosecco. Dole whips have always been one of my (many) favorite treats at Disney, so a combination of this iconic treat plus a mimosa was basically a requirement for me when dining here. They also had a lime version when we were there, so Megan opted for that one while Kristen & I stayed with the classic pineapple. These will set you back $15 each, but are well worth it. The pours are generous, and if you are a Dole Whip fan, I highly recommend it.

Next up, we ordered 2 savory options from different sections of the menu. We chose the crispy mac & cheese bites ($12) from the appetizers and the burrata ($22) from the entrees. Both were big enough to share and tasted just as good as they look!

The crispy mac & cheese bites are exactly how they sound: delicious little fried bits of creamy mac & cheese, topped with tomato nage & pecorino (according to Google, nage refers to a tecninque of simmering, and is often a sauce made from whisking butter into a little wine-enriched cooking stock. Makes total sense for a wine bar)!

As for the burrata, it also did not disappoint. As a millennial, it's coded in my DNA to like avocado, so this one was a must for me. The burrata is a combination of burrata cheese, avocado, greens, and bacon, piled atop ciabatta. I am so glad we shared this one, because I wouldn't be able to finish it if I had ordered this for my own entree! It's a very filling portion and is great for sharing.

After filling up on my three favorite food groups (mimosas, cheese, & bread, guys. Keep up), it was time to move on to dessert! Wine Bar George has lots of options to satisfy any sweet tooth, including everything from the classics like cinnamon rolls and chocolate chip cookies to more experimental options very fitting for a wine bar, like a rosé cookie. I'll give you one guess what we picked.

I was very curious to try the rosé cookie ($4), as well as the semifreddo ($8) - mostly because none of us knew what semifreddo was but a quick google search turned up a description we couldn't resist: an Italian semi-frozen dessert that is somewhere in the realm of frozen chocolate mousse and gelato. The cookie had a ton of frosting on it, so it was actually pretty big overall and very sweet (it's definitely big enough to share)! It had a very subtle rose flavor to it, which I loved and I would get it again, but only if I had others there who would split it with me. It was a little too sweet for me to be able to polish off on my own. The semifreddo was also very good, but was on the small side, so this one was harder to split. If you want to try this one, I recommend getting your own. It's not nearly as rich as the cookie, but still a great way to end our meal.

I had so much fun at brunch with my friends, and I carried that fun & whimsy over into my outfit for the ocassion. I wanted something bright & colorful, so I went with this rainbow tiered off the shoulder dress from Amazon. I added some Disney touches with my pink mouse ears and Tinkerbell bag (because when in Disney...). As if I didn't have enough going on with my outfit already, I went with some floral Lilly Pulitzer statement earrings (because there's no such thing as too many statement pieces). Plus a wise woman once said (the one & only Audrey; and if you don't know who I am talking about, you need to broaden your film horizons): "Life is a party. Dress like it."

Overall, I loved the vibe of Wine Bar George and thoroughly enjoyed the food & drink offerings. This is a great option at Disney Springs to pop in for a bite and a mimosa or to grab a glass of wine with friends in the evening. The staff was so helpful & friendly, and had some great recommendations for us. Our server Christopher definitely steered us in the right direction and enhanced our experience here! I have been eyeing the "Chocolate Experience" - a pairing demonstration of three wines and three chocolates, so I will definitely be back as soon as possible.

Thank you so much to Wine Bar George & their team for hosting me! I am always greatful for these opportunities to collab with places I love & show my support in blog posts to get the word out to you guys! I truly enjoy being able to share the things I love, and hope that you'll check out Wine Bar George on your next trip to Disney Springs. Have a froscato - or three - and tell 'em Shell sent you! Cheers!
