Pink Retreat Series: In The Beginning - an interview with Tosha Williams

c/o Lilly Pulitzer
Hey! Did you know this is part of a series? You can check out the other Pink Retreat posts here!

I can't believe it's been almost 3 weeks now since the Pink Retreat, and I still have so much to share and discuss! I'm going to kick off the rundown of my experience at #TPR by giving you guys a little background & inside look at how this weekend even came to be, including an interview with none other than the creator herself, Tosha Williams!

For those that don't know who she is or haven't been to a Pink Retreat (yet!), Tosha is the one who made this entire event possible. The Pink Retreat is her brainchild, born out of obviously a love for the Lilly Pulitzer brand, but also for the sisterhood that bonds its fans together.

Could you give us a little brief backstory on yourself? Where you're from, what you do/what your background is in, & why you love the Lilly brand so much?
Tosha: We’ve been in Nashville, TN for 3 years. I’m a, Mompreneur, a SAHM who started her own business! Before becoming a Stay at Home Mom, almost 7 years ago, I was an Art Therapist working at NIH. Patients would regularly comment on my sunshiny, brighter than life clothes. Being able to lift someone's spirits with colorful clothes was not only therapeutic, but what Lilly is all about.

How & why did you start TPR?
Tosha: When my oldest was about to start Kindergarten and my youngest was about to start preschool part time, I started thinking about what I wanted to do next. I had a small Art Therapy private practice years ago and enjoyed being in business for myself. I have been pretty active on the FB boards and enjoyed the virtual relationships. I always thought that it would be fun to have a ‘Lilly Convention’, but laughed it off! One day on the boards someone brought up the idea of a ‘Lilly Convention’ and knew that I needed to explore it! I started the FB group ‘Lilly Con! The Pink Retreat’ as a way to start the conversation about a possible ‘Lilly Convention’ and the conversation grew into The Pink Retreat.

How did Lilly Pulitzer, as a brand, come to be involved with/sponsor the event?
Tosha: Lilly didn’t get involved until spring last year, our schedule was already set!! They liked the idea of Lilly lovers coming together.

How many girls went to last year's retreat vs. how many were at this year's?
Tosha: About 100 registered in 2018, and close to 300 in 2019!

With TPR blowing up on social media & the Facebook groups, do you expect next year to be huge?
Tosha: I hope more Lilly lovers come out and enjoy the sisterhood of The Pink Retreat!

How much planning goes into organizing an event of this size?
Tosha: Many, many months!

Did you expect the Pink Retreat to get as big as it has?
Tosha: I feel incredibly blessed, it’s exciting to see how it’s grown!

What was your favorite part about this year's Pink Retreat?
Tosha: The sisterhood and the constant smiles!

Have you already started planning for next year?
Tosha: I’m taking some downtime before jumping in to planning.

Could you give us any insider hints at what may be in store for next year?
Tosha: More fun!

And one last question, just for fun. What is your favorite Lilly print?
Tosha: There are way too many! My latest favorite is Cheek to Cheek!

Thanks so much to Tosha Williams for letting me interview her (all photos of her are property of Tosha & are used with permission). Be sure to stay tuned for more upcoming posts about my Pink Retreat experience!
