"Oh my God, you look like the Fourth of July!"

July 4, 2019

Happy 4th of July, friends! We all get to be out of office today thanks to living in the land of the free because of the brave, so let's party like it's 1776! Ok, ok, enough with the overused sayings. Today I'm just showcasing a little bit of my own personal July 4th style by giving some new life to a dress that has been hiding in my closet, and I felt it was time for it to come out & play.

Lilly Pulitzer has several really cute patriotic prints, but I don't own any of those (I mean really, when else would I wear a shift printed with fireworks?) so ya girl had to work with what she's got!

The inspiration for this look actually came from one of my childhood summer staples: the bomb pop! This popsicle keychain from Charmed With Magic was giving me some serious July 4th vibes, and with the timing of when I received it, I just couldn't pass up the opportunity for some fun holiday content. :) To be completely transparent, I am a brand rep for Jayme's shop & was gifted the bag charm, and you can use code SHELL for 30% off if there's something in the shop that sparks joy (Marie Kondo would hate me because every time I go shopping, literally everything sparks joy).

I don't think Jayme was expecting me to run full force with it & create a whole look around a popsicle, but as we all know, I love a good theme!

So to get in the spirit, I threw on this Lilly Pulitzer Quahog Chowdah dress to pull from the white & blue of the bomb pop. I added the necklace with the pops of red coral as another (very) subtle nod. The gold Jack Rogers sandals are very glittery (especially in the sun), and I thought it worked for drawing parallels to the fireworks that sparkle & crackle in the sky on July 4th.

I love the versatility of this dress because it's loose, breezy (see my previous post on dressing for extreme temps!), and it doubles as a beach or pool cover up. Skip the undergarments & opt for a bikini instead (especially this figure-flattering Amazon winner), and then you're ready to hit the water at the drop of a (sun) hat!

And then of course, there's the itty bitty piece that sparked it all, the cute little popsicle bag charm! I feel like this particular style would look so cute on a bright red (or overly American, star spangled) bag or pool tote, but I used my oversized white tote instead (I love how versatile white fashion pieces are).

Barry, Lilly & I spent the morning downtown on the waterfront and cooled off in the water steps. If you ever find yourself visiting Chattanooga, this is a must-do! It's 100% free, great for kids, and very relaxing (when it's relatively empty). But if you come in the afternoon on a weekend, or during the week in the summer, beware: it can get very crowded due to families and summer camps during the week. Early to mid-morning is your best bet!

With as much as I preach about loving Florida & missing the beach constantly, my little southern charmed state is pretty picturesque in its own right. There's something to be said for the natural beauty that can be found right here on the waterfront.

So if you need me, I'll be over here on a pretend-vacation (daycation?), soaking up the sun, and ignoring the incoming 500 work emails flooding my inbox faster than the water rushing down those steps! Happy 'Merica day, y'all!
