New Year Cheer

December 31, 2018

I’m not entirely sure what happened to 2018 or how I got here. It’s as if I somehow Marty McFly’d myself several months ahead because I swear it was just January & I was settling into life at home with my newborn daughter. Looking back, 2018 was a pretty great year - it kicked 2017’s ass, that’s for sure!

2018 was the year of some serious multitasking skills, what with trying to juggle motherhood, my usual office job, and my side hustle Second Star Co. & I think I did pretty well! Becoming a mom truly does change you (for the better, of course), but if there’s one thing that hasn’t wavered, it’s my love of travel. Even with a new baby, I still managed to take a few (several) trips this year: Nashville, St. Pete Beach, Disney World (three times!), Denver, & Memphis.

Our NYE this year will be a quiet one. We’ll be staying in & binging on snacks & probably knocking back a couple glasses of bubbly, so I’m keeping my outfit simple & on the more casual side this year (& it doubles as a cute look for the office). While I am all about sequin dresses, rhinestone heels, and basically covering myself head to toe in glitter for New Years outings, I don’t much see the point in going to all that effort if we’ll just be home, yet wanted something besides my usual momiform of leggings, oversized spitup-stained tees, & a messy topknot (so glamorous, right?).

Pixie Ankle Pants: Old Navy | Rose gold clutch: Marc Jacobs for Target | Happy New Year crown: Amazon

For this look, I paired these festive gold dot pixie pants with a sparkly sweater in the same color palette. I’m currently obsessed with these pixie pants. I’m petite, so I always dread shopping for jeans & slacks because it’s always a case of Goldilocks & the 3 bears pairs of pants. The pants are either the right length but don’t fit in the waist, or the waist is perfect but the legs are a mile long; there’s never one that’s been juuuuust right...until I found these. So god bless Old Navy for bestowing upon us petite gals pants that actually fit and flatter! Bonus points for the fun print!

For accessories, I went with a simple Marc Jacobs rose gold clutch & a sequin bow bracelet that was made by yours truly. I could post a DIY on it, but we’ve already established I’m kind of phoning it in this NYE, so here’s an online tutorial instead. To bring the whole look together, I topped it off with a rhinestone "Happy New Year" crown. I've had it for a few years now, and I wear it every year. Gotta love traditions!

Although I won't be dancing the night away in sequins & stillettos, and there's a very real possibility I won't even make it to midnight, I'm still excited at the new possibilities the new year will bring. Some of my resolutions include:
  • read more books (currently working on American Eve)
  • travel (planning on spring Dapper Day in April & a Lilly Pulitzer convention in June)
  • blog at least 2-3 times a month (I'd say that is pretty do-able)
  • learn to sew (I really only know the very basics of sewing right now, but I want to make a dress)
  • declutter (literally & figuratively)
  • put myself out there more (experience new things, make new friends, expand my horizons)
I hope everyone has a safe & happy new year! See you in 2019!
