Cabana, ooh-na-na

July 18, 2018

Sometimes you want to get away but can't really "get away" - you might be out of vacation time, have too many responsibilities close to home, or just can't swing that Bora Bora trip right now (or you know, like, ever.) That's where staycations come in. You get that feeling of vacation with a whole lot less commitment - and you'll probably save some green in the process (dolla dolla bills, y'all)!

Since I'm not fortunate enough to live somewhere that a staycation is the same thing as a vacation (I see you, white sand Florida beaches!), I rely on places in & around Chattanooga to give me a little bit of that R&R fix. If you're like me - where the nearest beach is just a hop, skip, & oh, a 6 hour car ride away (7-8 if you factor in rush hour downtown ATL traffic - my own personal hell), you know you can't just pack up & go on a whim. Staying local at a great hotel or bed&breakfast is the next best option!

I had the chance to check out the new Westin Chattanooga recently & get a taste of what it's like to be a guest here while collaborating on a super fun photo shoot & I fell hard for this hotel! There's something about staying at a hotel that just feels luxurious (think fluffy hotel robes, champagne in the bathtub, & decadent desserts from room service). From sipping appletinis in the Alchemy sky lounge to taking a dip in the rooftop pool, the Westin has all the makings of a great getaway.

You know that feeling you get walking into a hotel lobby where you're just like, "Yup. I'm selling all my possessions & moving here instead"? If you said no, clearly you've never been to the Grand Floridian or Polynesian resorts, but walking into the Westin was kind of like that. There's no Mary Poppins fountain or Maui statue to greet you, but it still invokes that magical "I'm on vacation" feeling & there's a super cute living wall, so that's close enough.

I was most excited for lounging poolside - and did you see those cabanas?! There is talk of adding a tiki bar in the future, & I hope that happens because the only thing missing here is a mojito in my hand!

Naturally, I had to dress the part. So I channeled my inner sass queen, Daisy Duck. I found the cutest lavender bikini top & paired it with retro high waisted white bikini bottoms, which may or may not have looked a little "grandmas' underwear" because of the color, but whatever - I dig it. Daisy & Donald don't really wear pants anyway so hey, we'll chalk it up to authenticity.

I DIYed the pink felt bow & added it to the bikini top mostly as an accessory, but you could easily make one out of swimsuit material to sew right onto the suit if you want actual functionality. To play off of Daisy's namesake, I added the tassel earrings because hello? #extra :) And I chose the heart sunglasses because they were cute & I'm always sporting some type of flashy sunglasses (True life: I'm a sunglasses hoarder. Insert husband's eye roll here.)

After the pool, it was time for a quick outfit change & to hit up the Weston's rooftop bar, Alchemy. Located on the 10th floor, this bar has some great views of the city. They have live music 7 days a week, along with a great selection of food & drinks & a wraparound view of downtown. Unlike the pool, which is restricted to only guests of the hotel, Alchemy is open to anyone. Just stroll in through the lobby, ride the elevator up a few floors, & throw the doors open like you own the place! 10/10 would recommend.

Even if an overnight stay isn't in the cards for you anytime soon, the Westin is totally worth playing pretend & checking out. So see ya real soon, Westin, because I think I'll definitely be back.
