Squeeze The Day

June 16, 2018

Ah, sweet summertime - it invokes imagery of backyard barbecues, splashing around in the pool, & catching fireflies in the early evening - or at least once upon a time that's what summer meant. These days, it's more drive-thru BBQ, squeezing into the baby pool with Lilly, and getting eaten alive by mosquitoes. Summer may look a little different, but there's one thing that remains the same: the sundress.

A great sundress (or 20, in my case) is an essential piece of any wardrobe. You can never have too many & I tend to go for fun prints & bright colors (give me all the seersucker & neons!). When I came across this lemon print dress, I knew it would be perfect for daytripping in Nashville. I paired it with my favorite lace up wedges & a lemon clutch from Tartan+Twine to complete the look (because I'm never one to pass up a good theme).

Peep that TN bracelet!

For our Saturday adventures, we wandered up & down the 12th South area - a cute little strip filled with coffee shops, boutiques, & trendy restaurants. There's even a little flower truck that parks it here sometimes (follow @ameliasflowertruck on IG to track their pop-up locations). I started my day with a Rainforest Mocha from Portland Brew. It's their specialty & if you like banana, you need to order this drink! Once fully caffeinated, we were ready to do some shopping. But really - like we needed caffeine to do that. We could shop in our sleep... and sometimes I do - evident by my 2AM Etsy purchases. Oops.

The big draw for me to the 12th South area was Draper James, which is Reese Witherspoon's boutique. The building itself is bright & cheery, with its blue & white striped walls & gingham storefront - it's an attraction in itself!  Pro tip: if you do want to snap some photos here, come EARLY! Like 8am kind of early. You will avoid the crowds of tourists wanting to selfie with the wall (yes, crowds) & you'll get the best lighting because the wall will be shaded in the morning so you can avoid harsh shadows.

The store itself doesn't open until later in the morning, but come thirsty because everyone who wanders in gets a taste of southern hospitality at its finest in the form of the most adorable mini cup of sweet tea. I'm not usually a sweet tea person but this was tasty!

The boutique merch is pretty pricey (a keychain goes for about $38!) but there are some more affordable goodies if you're just looking for a cute memento of your trip rather than going full blown Rebecca Bloomwood. They have a line of "Little Big Thoughts" ring trays, all with southern or whimsical sayings printed on them that I found to be the perfect souvenirs with a friendly price point of $18. Of course, I opted for the Peter Pan inspired one :) (you can take the girl out of Disney...)

Shop this trinket tray here!

They have so many cute pieces right now, you may find it hard to choose. I'll leave you with just a few of my Draper James favorites & all the pieces (or similar) to shop my look. Queen B is wearing this lovely DJ pineapple number & it's so incredibly totes adorbs that you will need this tote ASAP to match!
